Buying Your First Guitar
Buying your first guitar can be very confusing, especially if you have no advance knowledge of guitar brands, models and how they work.
First, you must decide what type of guitar you want to buy. Broadly speaking, this comes down to an electric guitar or an acoustic guitar.
To help you decide, ask what kind of music you intend to start playing. For example, it is almost mandatory to get an electric guitar if you intend to play styles like metal, rock or blues. However, if you intend to play folk, classical or country music, then an acoustic guitar would be much more suitable.
In general, electric guitars, are easier to play than acoustic guitars because of their lighter gauge strings and lower playing action. They require less hand strength to fret the strings and are much easier on beginners fingers.
However, even though it is a bit harder to play an acoustic guitar, you will find it very beneficial when you try switching over to an electric guitar.
Additionally, acoustic guitars have an advantage over electric guitars in that they are generally much cheaper, lighter and more portable to carry. With electric guitars, you have additional costs such as amplifiers and effects pedals.
